DIEP Flap Reconstruction
Do you also need abdominal compression?
If you are recovering from a DIEP flap procedure, you will have an abdominal donor site as well as your chest to support. An abdominal binder or compression garment worn alongside your post surgery bra is an important part of recovery. We stock a range of abdominal binders, foam inserts and post surgical girdles suitable for DIEP flap recovery.

Do you offer specialist fittings for reconstruction patients?
Yes. We offer one to one specialist fittings at our Maidstone and London Cavendish Square showrooms, as well as virtual fittings from anywhere in the UK. Our fittings for reconstruction patients are private, unhurried appointments where we take time to understand your procedure, your body and your needs. Do I need abdominal compression after a DIEP flap?
Yes. If you have had a DIEP flap reconstruction, your abdominal donor site will also need support during recovery. An abdominal binder worn over the lower abdomen helps to reduce swelling, support the healing tissue and improve comfort. The specific garment and how long to wear it will depend on your surgeon's recommendations. We stock a range of abdominal binders suitable for DIEP flap recovery and can advise on sizing and fit.
What bra should I wear after breast reconstruction?
This depends on your type of reconstruction and your surgeon's guidance. For implant based reconstruction, a soft, front fastening compression bra is typically recommended from the day of surgery. For DIEP flap reconstruction, a very soft, gentle bra is preferable in the early weeks as the reconstructed breast is healing from transferred tissue. We recommend speaking with us before purchasing so we can advise on the right garment for your specific procedure and stage of recovery.

Garment requirements after reconstruction differ significantly from cosmetic breast surgery — the reconstructed breast may be more sensitive, and for flap procedures there is often an additional donor site to support. Many of our garments are VAT exempt for reconstruction patients
Patients recovering from breast reconstruction following cancer treatment are typically eligible to claim VAT relief on qualifying post surgery garments. You can apply for VAT exemption at checkout when placing your order. If you have any questions about eligibility or need guidance on which garments qualify, please contact us before ordering. We are happy to help you understand your options and ensure your order is processed correctly. VAT exemption is self certified at checkout and applies to qualifying medical conditions as defined by HMRC.
