How To Measure For Your Compression Garment
Wearing the right size compression garment ensures that targeted compression is applied to the correct areas of the body, helping to heal surgery sites, enhance post surgical results and optimise your recovery.
Our guide on how to measure yourself will help you determine the right size for each brand and we have included handy tips to help you measure yourself.
Compression garments and post surgery bras are designed to be tight, like shapewear or wearing a pair of skinny jeans on your body. However, you still need to feel comfortable, our recommendation is to see whether you can still fit two fingers underneath the underband of the post surgery bra or underneath the girdle. If you can fit a whole hand underneath and pull the garment away then it is too loose. It is common to go down sizes as your swelling subsides depending on the surgery that you have had.
The Fitting Service Top Tips on how to measure yourself for your post surgery bra or compression garment.
- Before you start grab a piece of paper and a pen to write down your measurements
- Use a measuring tape : although you can use a piece of string or belt and then put it against a ruler or tape measure, the most accurate way is to use a seamstress fabric measuring tape.
- Measure yourself standing up if possible
- Stand side on to a mirror so you can check to see the tape is horizontal and hasn’t fallen
- Measure yourself in a thin cami top or without any clothing on
- Take a deep breath in and then out before measuring yourself.
- Write down you measurements as you take them

How to Measure for a Macom Bra
Macom using high street sizing, therefore you only need to know your underband measurement. For example, if you are a 34 B bra size you would go for a 34 (medium) in Macom. All Macom bras have expandable cups, (with the exception of the xs which expands to an F cup, all the bras expand to a GG) so they will mold to your new cup size after your breast surgery.
If you do not know your current bra size then measure directly underneath the bust in inches using our tips on how to measure above.
